Kitchen Re-do

Woah – have I been MIA lately or what ! Life is just busy and I definitely have had more important things to do then to TRY entertain you with a blog post ;0) I would rather write a post of substance rather then stuff you really don’t care about !

I think my last post was a Wordless Wednesday post regarding what we have been up to around the house … If you haven’t seen that post , your about to find out ! This house we bought has original everything ! Particularly the kitchen … It’s just a small galley style kitchen .. It’s okay , I am not in love with it however it serves the purpose it is supposed to and that’s all I need for my first home. Since we have started taking a liking to making this house ours,  when I mean ours , I’m not talking financially , I am talking personality, We decided to start on the kitchen !

Counter tops are everything in a kitchen as well as the cabinets . They also can come with a hefty price tag! Both of us agreed we did not want to put thousands of dollars into this home so we did minimal updates. We took the original cabinets and added hardware just to give them a little face life ! We extended one of our counters by adding In wine fridge into the cabinets. We definitely needed extra counter space. The biggest change was the granite counter tops and a new sink with hardware !

We had some issues with the installation and plumbing so we were with out water for a few days. Washing dishes outside brings a whole new perspective to things . Blehhhh

After all, it turned out nice and happy with the way things look ! We are still in the process of tiling our back splash but will be done with that very soon ! I can’t wait to host my first thanksgiving !

Even though this is not the final sink picture, you still get the point ;0)

Happy Wednesday!!!!

Its the little things. . .

Having your own home is WONDERFUL … but until you actually own a home you really never thing about the little things. I have lived in our home for about a year and never really noticed that the blinds on the front of the house didnt match. All of a sudden within the last week, It has really been bugging me.

Yesterday when I got off work, we went to the store and purchased MATCHING blinds… Woo-hoo! Never thought I would be so excited about that. But wait . . . there is another delimma. Because the original wood blinds have probably been on the window for some time now, the sun has gotten to them. The new blinds are richer in color and we will just have to wait for time to take its toll on them. Good thing the sun hits the front of the house the most! sorry for the picutre, the sun was rising in the back ground. you still get the point !

Yay for new blinds. In addition to that little annoyance, I have also began to really hate all the light switches, the doors, and the bi-folds around the house. We have started to replace all the switches and plugs to a ‘rocker’ style switch instead of the ole’ toggle switch. Not to mention this is some what of a dangerous DIY job !

I look forward to replacing the ALL the doors in the house NEXT ! What are your home improvements ?

Happy Weekend !!!!

Household Debate

After you read this you might think I am slightly crazy … But hold your opinions till the end .. Please and Thank You ;)

We bought our home last August with the intentions of settling in, getting married and starting a family. Of course along with becoming homeowners, we became painters, interior designers, pool cleaners, landscapers… Ya know .. All that comes with owning a home ;)

As we started decorating, the first thing to be finished was the master bedroom then the guest bedroom to follow. For some reason the third bedroom aka ‘ the baby room’ or ‘ the office’ ( depending on who you ask ) was skipped over and we began decorating down stairs!

Let me clarify to those we read this ( mostly family ) we are NOT trying to have a baby !!!!

My reasoning for calling this room the baby room is due to the fact it is a perfect size for a baby ( ok. ok..and an office) and I don’t find it necessary to spend the money on making this a full blown out office then turn around to spend more money on baby furniture! The guest room is plenty big to add a desk and a chair , so why not ?

Till then, the third bed room sits freshly painted full of moving boxes and winter jackets. ( and probably will for quiet some time )

Backyard Project #1

In my first blog post, I mentioned we bought a home in August. The house is older but really just needs a few face lifts. One of the deciding factors to purchase our home was the outdoor living area; it has  a huge screened porch, enough room for Lola to do a little bit of running AND a pool :0) We love to entertain at our house!  The backyard was something that definetley needed some love! ( The potted plants were given to me by my mother just to add something there until we decided on what we wanted to actually do ) This is a photo of what this side of the yard looked like.

I could not tell you whether I have a green thumb or not because I really haven’t planted anything before. I can tell you that I have not killed the potted plants yet :) Don has also been a huge help with keeping up with them. We decided we wanted a more tropical theme in the back because of the pool. Off the bat we already knew we were pulling up all of the pavers and laying down sod; That project will wait closer till springtime.

One Saturday while I laid by the pool, Don started to pull up the pavers. He wanted my thoughts of creating a garden wall. To be honest, I really did not know what that was until he fully explained his idea. Before we started on the garden wall, we lined the pool with liriope.

I say WE, but I did not help at all. We have a very kind neighbor who really enjoys doing projects like this and offered to help Don. After the finished this project, Don had the itch to continue going. While I was at work, Don and our VERY VERY VERY kind neighbor built the garden wall frame.

The garden wall set empty until the coming Saturday. Don and I woke up bright and early to venture to Home Depot and Lowes. We purchased a few large bags of red bark, the plants and a whopping 2000 pounds of dirt ( rough estimate ).  Don and I both have 2 door vehicles, imagine what that looked like having 1000 pounds of dirt in a 2 door car.It looked  like I lowered my car! I was embarrassed and to make it worse I had to make 2 trips ! After all said and done, we were left with this . . .

Friday night my parents came to visit. They have a HUGE truck. We kindly asked them to help us finish up our project by hauling the last part of our project home! We certainly did not care to leave the wood to show. The framing finally was covered by stone. The final touch :)

We are extremely satisfied with the finished project. As you can see, we still have TONS of pavers to continue to pull up and sod to be laid. A little at a time is okay with me. We have a lot more planned for the back yard. You will have to wait and see :)

Till then, Happy Sunday … I hate Sundays, it just means tomorrow is Monday ! Blah !
